What problem is the Global Health and Development Fund working on?

Nearly half the world lives on less than $2.50 a day, yet giving by the world’s richest often overlooks the world’s poorest and most vulnerable. Despite the average American household being richer than 90% of the rest of the world, only 6% of US charitable giving goes to charities that work internationally.

What projects does the Global Health and Development Fund support?

This Fund is focused on helping those who need it most, wherever that help can make the biggest difference. By building a mixed portfolio of direct and indirect interventions (such as policy work), this Fund aims to:

  • Improve the lives of the world's most vulnerable people.
  • Reduce the number of easily preventable deaths worldwide.
  • Work towards sustainable, systemic change.

Recent grant recipients include:

  • Family Empowerment Media — supporting radio shows to inform people in Nigeria about modern forms of contraception and address common misconceptions.
  • r.i.c.e. institute — supporting the Kangaroo Mother Care programme in hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, India.
  • Suvita — supporting efforts to increase childhood vaccination in India.
  • University of Washington — funding followup research on a large-scale deworming randomised controlled trial in order to develop a research protocol on long-term cognitive and biological impacts.
  • Malaria Consortium — filling a time-sensitive gap in Malaria Consortium's bednet programme in Anambra State, Nigeria (on the recommendation of GiveWell).
  • PrEP4All — supporting work to advocate for an mRNA COVID vaccine production campaign spearheaded by the US government.
