Hi everyone! For my 21st birthday, I'm trying to encourage people to donate to causes that I think are really important. Don't worry, I'll still go out for a drink and a nice meal with my friends on March 8th. But consider a donation to one of these charities a gift to me—I'll be really happy if we can make a substantial impact.
I think you all already know me, but perhaps you're not aware of the causes I care most about. I think that disasters related to nuclear war, future pandemics, climate change, and AI could be catastrophic for humanity. So that's why I want people to donate to the Nuclear Threat Initiative's biological policy program, which works on strengthening international biotechnology governance and biosecurity. Covid-19 caused around 15 million deaths worldwide. Given that it was plausibly the worst thing to happen in the last half-century, I think much more needs to be done in terms of international cooperation on pandemic preparedness and biotech regulation.
I also think there are a lot of ongoing moral catastrophes, like our neglect of people dying from preventable diseases like malaria and our collective moral blindness regarding animal welfare (both in factory farms and in the wild). So I'm also promoting the Against Malaria Foundation and the Recommended Charity Fund from Animal Charity Evaluators as well. Donating is a great way to have a massive impact without significantly changing your lifestyle. Altering your diet to consume fewer animal products is laudable and ideal, but it can be tough. You can have a way bigger impact for a much lower cost by donating to charities like Animal Charity Evaluators' Recommended Charity Fund and the Shrimp Welfare Project

Bednets To Prevent Malaria
AMF's bed net programs protect people from malaria by distributing and ensuring the use of long-lasting insecticidal bednets in regions with the highest burden of malaria cases.
