Goal
Malaria is a disease transmitted through mosquitoes where a parasite destroys red blood cells. In honor of World Malaria Day today, EA@Meta would like to highlight two charities that are highly effective in mitigating the suffering and death from this devastating disease.
The Malaria Consortium distributes antimalarial drugs to young children. The Against Malaria Foundation distributes insecticide-treated bed nets to protect people from malaria-carrying mosquitoes while they sleep. Charity evaluators like GiveWell have determined that these are two of the most effective charities helping the global poor.
According to GiveWell, a donation of about $5 to the Against Malaria Foundation will provide a mosquito net to a family, and about $7 to the Malaria Consortium will result in treating a child with antimalarial drugs. About $5,000 dollars in donations to either charity will save a life.
A club for anyone at Meta interested in doing good well.
Bednets To Prevent Malaria
AMF's bed net programs protect people from malaria by distributing and ensuring the use of long-lasting insecticidal bednets in regions with the highest burden of malaria cases.
Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention
The Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention program protects children from malaria by distributing preventative medication at times of high transmission.
