Rethink Priorities researches animal welfare, longtermism, and the Effective Altruism community to inform charitable decision-making and identify the most effective ways to create a better world.
Rethink Priorities’ mission is to generate the most significant possible impact for others in the present and the long-term future.
The organization does research on improving the welfare of nonhuman animals and on potential existential risks, like widespread nuclear war. They also try to find and develop other neglected but promising charitable interventions. Lastly, they work to build and support the Effective Altruism community through running the annual EA Survey and conducting messaging research.
Rethink Priorities work includes research into invertebrate welfare, nuclear security, farmed animal welfare, vaccine development, and more. They share research results with funders, organizations, and policy makers to help inform these stakeholders' priorities and approaches.
