We want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in our Just One Net campaign which bought 5,305 nets.
On World Malaria Day on Monday 25th April 2016 Giving What We Can supporters and members from 33 countries contributed US $15,638, 100% of which will be used to buy 5,305 long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) that will protect 9,550 people or cover 19 entire villages!
According to the World Health Organisation in 2015, there were 214 million cases of Malaria. 438,000 people died as a result, around 306,000 of whom were children under five.
A bednet from the Against Malaria Foundation costs just £1.76/$2.50 and is an especially effective way of controlling malaria.
So far bednets have prevented about 450 million cases of the disease. GiveWell estimates that it costs just $2,838 to prevent the death of a child under five years old from malaria. These estimates are uncertain, but suggest that Just One Net has fully prevented five deaths.

Because malaria is something that affects so many people, is so cheap to prevent and The Against Malaria Foundation are so efficient at providing bednets they are one of our top recommended charities.
Some charites can be hundreds of times more effective than others so it's important to choose carefully where we give.
