TerraPraxis is a nonprofit that innovates and incubates scalable solutions for a livable planet and global prosperity. It focuses on the difficult-to-decarbonise sectors of coal, industrial heat, and heavy transport.

What problem is TerraPraxis working on?

TerraPraxis is a nonprofit founded to design and implement strategies that leverage science, technology, and energy innovation. Its focus is on accelerating action for climate and prosperity by enabling high-impact rapid transitions for the toughest parts of the decarbonisation challenge.

What does TerraPraxis do?

TerraPraxis defines innovation pathways to achieve results at the cost, speed, and scale necessary for widespread decarbonisation. It does this by:

  • Mobilising customers, governments, industry, investors, NGOs, and regulators around recommendations on policy and market incentives.
  • Supporting technical, supply chain, siting and licensing requirements.
  • Ensuring access to finance.

Through a combination of rigorous analysis, relationships of trust, and an alignment of values with key influencers, TerraPraxis maps transformative solutions onto the uncharted territories of decarbonisation that are presently absent from the discourse.

What evidence is there of TerraPraxis’ effectiveness?

TerraPraxis meets the criteria to be listed on our platform based on the recommendation of one of our trusted evaluators, Founders Pledge. Founders Pledge’s research team highlighted that TerraPraxis is among the most cost-effective organisations working on climate change. (Our trusted evaluators are charitable giving experts who focus on impact — their research into the best charities means your donations can do even more good. Learn more about charity evaluators we trust and why.)

We don’t include TerraPraxis among our top-rated charities only because Founders Pledge will be able to allocate funding much more effectively via the Climate Change Fund (which is top-rated). The Climate Change Fund allows donors to give both to specific projects at TerraPraxis and other highly effective climate charities, when and where they need it most. They also don’t take any fees for their work. Read more about why we recommend donating via funds.

At Giving What We Can, we focus on the effectiveness of an organisation’s work, which considers much more than just the administration costs of the organisation. Learn more about this common “overhead myth” and our approach to charity evaluation.
