Rethink Charity

Rethink Charity

Rethink Charity elevates the effective altruism community toward greater positive impact through incubating, operating, and funding high-impact projects.

__Rethink Charity has a three-year track record incubating and operating high-impact projects. __

Rethink Charity skill set also includes a demonstrated ability to pivot based on the latest understanding of their key leverage points - past projects, EA Hub, LEAN, SHIC, and Rethink Priorities, were either passed on to new leadership, suspended, or built into self-sufficient teams, based on evidence-based analyses of their potential for impact.

Rethink Charity has three current focus projects:

  1. In Canada, RC Forward is a cause-impartial international regranting platform for high-impact charities around the world. For the people who use RC Forward, it’s simply a way to make effective giving easier and more cost effective. RC Forward currently features over 35 charities recommended by GiveWell, Founders Pledge, Animal Charity Evaluators, and The Life You Can Save. Through strategic partnerships, RC Forward empowers Canadian donors to fund high-impact projects worldwide in a way that also makes donations eligible for Canadian tax receipts.
  2. In the United States, EA Giving Tuesday supports both donors and highly effective nonprofits participating in Facebook’s annual Giving Tuesday match. In addition to setting up systems and processes, the team provides analysis-based recommendations, detailed instructions, and responsive support. The team’s goal is to make it as easy as possible for donors to direct matching dollars to highly effective nonprofits.
  3. In the United States, Rethink Charity provides fiscal sponsorship services, to support charity startups (i.e., “sponsees”) so that they can be less burdened by administrative work while also receiving the tax advantages available to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Rethink Charity’s current fiscally sponsored projects include Effective Thesis and Dao Foods. Rethink Priorities was fiscally sponsored by Rethink Charity under a “Model C” arrangement that set up the RP for success as its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a status it achieved in 2020.
