about

Welcome to the University of California, San Diego chapter of Giving What We Can! We are the third U.S. based chapter of an international society, dedicated to two simple but powerful ideas:

  • We believe that with cost-effective donations, we can eliminate extreme poverty in the developing world within our time.
  • We believe that charitable giving can add to your quality of life, leading to more happiness and fulfillment rather than less.

Efficient donating practices give ordinary people the ability to do an incredible amount of good in the world. By giving just 10% of a $24,000 yearly income, a single individual can save the lives of 5 people or prevent a total of 10,000 school days missed due to illness.

And far from making people miserable, research shows that donating money leads to a better and happier life. Many of us have made a Pledge To Give 10% of our income to the most cost-effective charities we can find, only to discover that we're better off for our so-called sacrifice.

We hold regular talks and social events that are open to the general public. Please contact Theron Pummer if you are interested in getting involved. For more information, you can visit Giving What We Can's About Us page or join us on Facebook .
